Captain John T. Owensby 46, of 251 West Rd. Clarksburg, Ma. died Friday March 1, 2013 at his home. He was born in North Adams on December 18, 1966 a son of Joan (Girardi) Owensby. He graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1985 and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1987. John obtained his degree in construction management from the University of North Florida in 1989. He was employed at the Petricca Construction Co. and later established New England Construction Co. and Berkshire Driveways and Sealer serving as owner and operator. He also served as a project manager for Williams College. John was a volunteer baseball coach at Williams College and worked at the Dan Duquette Sports Academy. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church in North Adams. He coached for the Williamstown Cal Ripken Baseball League, was a member of the American Baseball Coaches Assoc. and a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame Assoc. and was active with the North Adams Steeple Cats. He was a member of the North Adams Sons of Italy and Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department, Greylock Community Club and a former member of the North Adams Elks Club. He volunteered for the Custom City Cycle Fun Run to raise funds for the Shriner’s . John loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited and lifetime member of Bass Angler Society and the NRA. In March of 2003 John became a Merchant Marine officer and obtained his marine captain’s license. John will be remembered as a loving and devoted son, husband, father, brother, and friend. Survivors include his devoted mother Joan (Girardi) Owensby of Clarksburg. His loving wife Sonja (St. Pierre) Owensby whom he married September 28, 1996 in Raphael’s Church in Williamstown. Two children whom he loved dearly-Jordan Elizabeth Owensby and Jackson Valentino Owensby, both of Clarksburg. One brother- David Michael Owensby of Florida, MA. He also leaves an aunt and uncle, Susan and George Galli of Williamstown; his very close grand uncles and aunts, nephews and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents- Valentino “Tino” Girardi and Angelina “Lena” (Cozzaglio) Girardi. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday March 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Church, North Adams. There are no calling Hours.
